North Hastings, naturally…
Bancroft, and the surrounding region known as North Hastings, is one of the most unique areas geologically in the entire world! With almost 90% of all types of minerals found on earth located in North Hastings, Bancroft is a major destination for recreational rock hounding enthusiasts and is known as the "Mineral Capital of Canada". 2013 is the 50th anniversary of the Bancroft Rockhound Gemboree, our signature event for the region and a great reason to put Bancroft into your travel plans this year!
Bancroft is a regional hub where all your shopping and service needs can be fulfilled whether you live in the area full-time, seasonally or are just here for a short visit.
Whether it is because of the natural beauty of the area, the friendliness of the people or the space to “do your own thing”, North Hastings is home to a growing number of artists, artisans and musicians. No need to travel to the city for live theatre, concerts or art shows, we have all these opportunities in North Hastings. People are so welcoming, it is easy to get involved!
Neighbouring villages offer some fabulous opportunities to discover unique “made in North Hastings” products. Maynooth’s Saturday morning Farmers’ Market attracts large crowds every week during the summer months. Be sure to include time to visit Maynooth’s growing enclave of artist shops and studios.
Coe Hill is a picturesque village where a stop at the “vintage hardware store turned café” is like a step back in time. And of course, a summer is not complete without a trip to the long running Coe Hill Agricultural Fair.
The amazing view from Boulter, just a few minutes east of Bancroft, is one of Ontario’s best kept secrets! All we can say is “bring your camera”!
With larger centres at least an hour and a half away, Bancroft provides a captive market of approximately 15000 permanent residents within 40km as well as a bulging population from May through October estimated to add another 30,000. It an ideal place to open that business of your dreams. Check out the Local Economy section for more details.
We invite you to discover everything North Hastings has to offer whether you are seeking to invest, start a business, take a vacation, buy a home or locate services within your community. Enjoy!
